Orientation Days for new students at RU this week 

Orientation Days, a meet and greet for new students, will be held on August 13–14 at Reykjavík University. During Orientation Days, new undergraduate students at RU will be welcomed with a varied program of events. This year, there are just over 900 new students at the university. 

What’s going on during Orientation Days?

During the meet and greet, all of RU's academic departments, the university's student associations, and student services will introduce their activities. New students will also be offered guided tours of the campus, and the event will conclude with a large barbecue in Sólin (the university's main social/common area). 

Students will also meet faculty members, fellow students, departmental staff, and other university employees as well as learning about the university's wide range of support services, including the library, student counseling, and the international office. 

Attendance is optional for all events on both days, but new students are encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible to help prepare for the upcoming semester. 

During Orientation Days, students will receive essential information from instructors, department heads, and staff from the departments where they will begin their studies. They will be given a thorough overview of what to expect from their academic programs.

In addition, there will be presentations on a variety of topics, including: 

• An introduction to university studies  

• How to get the most out of your education  

• Information about RU's information technology services  

• Student exchange opportunities  

• Academic and career counseling  

• The student online portal (Canvas) 

Student organizations will introduce themselves, and the university's support services will have information booths available.
