RU Publishes New PRME Report on Sustainability
Reykjavik University has published a PRME report, providing an overview of the university’s current status when it comes to sustainability in education, teaching, research, and its own operations. RU is now publishing its PRME report for the fourth time; previous reports can be found here.
PRME stands for United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education, meaning that RU has committed to following the United Nations’ principles for responsible management education (UN PRME). RU has been a member of the initiative since 2012.
Dr. Stefan Wendt, Chair of the Department of Business and Economics at RU, oversaw the preparation of the report. It provides a foundation for prioritizing RU’s sustainability-related initiatives and also offers an international comparison with other universities.

Extensive and diverse sustainability work
A wide range of sustainability initiatives are underway at RU, including through the work of HR’s Sustainability Committee and the research centres Sustainability Institute and Forum (SIF) and CloCCS. RU has also mapped both research and courses at the university against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
RU’s participation in PRME is a university-wide initiative coordinated by HR’s Sustainability Committee. The new report outlines the university’s participation in UN PRME during 2025–2026 and focuses on the seven principles: purpose, values, teaching, research, partnerships, practice, and dissemination.
Successful Sustainability Day
Last month, RU’s Sustainability Day was held in collaboration with the Student Association of Reykjavik University (SFHR), with strong attendance.

The event featured “disco soup,” made from usable food ingredients that would otherwise have been discarded, as well as a clothing auction organized by Sorpa and Góði hirðirinn, with proceeds benefiting the Píeta organization.
A SIF panel discussion on adapting critical infrastructure to increased risks from climate change was well attended. Presentations were given by Dr. Martin Drews from DTU and representatives of SIF’s supporting partners, Landsvirkjun and Landsnet.
The panel discussion was covered by Morgunvaktin on Rás 1, and Morgunblaðið also interviewed Drews and Jóhanna Hlín Auðunsdóttir from Landsvirkjun.
